![]() ![]() Finally, segment three will be the Utility exercises – signals, articles, moving stand, go outs and directed jumping. The second segment will be all heeling with focus on footwork and body position. First is Open exercises where the focus will be on everything except the heeling: retrieving, jumping, the drop on recall and signal discrimination exercises. It runs 90 minutes and consists of three 30-minute segments. This is an ongoing class for students who are proceeding up the ladder in their obedience training and who are striving for precision and excellence. You will be in experienced, supportive hands as you put the finishing touches on your teamwork and learn to conduct yourself in the obedience ring for a polished performance at any level. He will help you teach your dog the upper-level obedience exercises while sharing his knowledge and insight on ring etiquette. Phil Rustad, an AKC obedience judge since 1996, a long-time instructor, and an exhibitor with multiple OTCH/MACH combo titles under his belt, knows what it takes to get a solid performance in the ring. If you’re serious about preparing your dog for obedience competition and also want to work on exercises at the Open and Utility levels, this class is for you. Prerequisite: Completion of Obedience 2 Good Manners Cont at Cloud Nine or equivalent. This is an ongoing class you may start at any time. If you want your dog to be a Canine Good Citizen, a competition obedience dog, a therapy dog, an agility dog, a flyball dog, a musical freestyle dog, a tracking dog, a herding dog, a search and rescue dog, an earth dog, etc., or the most important of all – great pet who can do you proud when you’re out and about – then participation in our Obedience 3 class will ensure your success! You will also continue improving your teamwork so that some, if not all, of the exercises in class, including limited jumping and retrieving, can be done with your dog off leash. In the Obedience 3 class at Cloud Nine, you will keep working on your dog’s responses, skills, and behaviors so they stay crisp and accurate in the presence of other dogs, and people, and changing distractions. Dogs are no different, which is why we offer an Obedience 3 “maintenance” obedience class. Whether the IT is speaking a foreign language, performing an athletic skill, or playing a musical instrument, if you don’t practice what you’ve learned you won’t retain what you’ve learned – or at least you won’t retain it well – and your performance will suffer. Prerequisite: completion of Obedience 1 Good Manners at Cloud Nine or equivalent. The Good Manners Cont class is a “must do” to further your dog’s good manners, so what are you waiting for? ![]() You will also teach your dog a stand stay behavior and how to walk with you off leash. ![]() 1 Good Manners while insisting on faster and more precise responses from your dog in the presence of increasingly more difficult and challenging distractions. ![]() In our Good Manners Cont class, you will strengthen and expand on the behaviors, the bond, and the teamwork you started in Obed. Can your dog walk past another dog without sniffing or lunging and instead keep his attention on you? Will your dog come to you even when he sees a blowing leaf or a kid on a bike? Is it possible for your dog to sit still while someone approaches and pets him? Now that your dog has completed our Level 1 class (or the equivalent) and understands what to do when you say sit, come, lie down, etc., it’s time for him to learn more and do better. ![]()
